Oo is for Owl.

This weeks letter is Oo. We watched a video on Owls and then drew a plan for our writing this week. We have learnt so much already. Owls are nocturnal animals, this means that they sleep during the day and come out at night to hunt. They fly very quietly so their prey can't hear them when they are hunting. We made some of our own that will sit up in our trees on the classroom walls watching us write our reports. Our teachers are looking forward to some quality writing and using some new words we have learnt.

Shine a Light

Last week we had Shine a Light visit and perform a show about reading. We saw some books that we have read and some books that we now want to read!
They were funny and even had some Linwood North students dress up and be a part of the show.

Being A Learner: Writing Information Reports About Owls

Oo is for Owls
We are learning this week about the letter Oo.  On Monday we will watch this video about Owls which we will use as part of our writing.   We are learning to write information reports which include 'topic' words and detail.   This week we will use a storyboard to help us organise our ideas and thinking.   We can't use write about what we think in our writing e.g. Owls are cute.  This is saying what we think.

By putting our learning  on our Blog we can come back to our learning and find more information to add to our writing by ourself.

Our teacher hope we use 'topic' words in our writing next week like:

  • Plumage - feathers
  • Nocturnal - sleep during the day and are awake at night
  • Species - type or kind
  • Bill - beak
  • Talons - claws
  • Nestlings - baby owls
  • Parliament - a group of owls
Check our published writing later in the week to see if we achieved this!

Being A Learner: Writing Factual Reports About Gorillas

This week our letter is Gg. As par to of our learning we are learning to write factual reports about gorillas.   On Monday we watched this video about Gorillas.

Our Teachers taught us about mind maps and modelled how to write one.

Here is the mind map we used.

We have to write key words about gorillas that we learnt from the video.
These words were then put onto our word wall so we could access them at writing time.

We are going to make our gorilla writing into a fact card.
Watch this space to see our writing!
