Being A Learner - Watching Our New School Hall Building Starting

Today we did a site visit to our school Hall as things have started happening!
The fences had been up for a wee while but last week the digger and the container arrived on site so we went out to have a wee look.  We also took a graphic organiser to record our ideas and to sketch what we could see. When we came inside we added some details to our sketch and the teacher recorded some words that we used.  We will use these words in our writing.

Some of the interesting words we thought of were...
muddy, puddles, digger, scoop, bucket, container, foundation, flashing light, orange, truck, excavating, tracks, turning

Here are some photos of us looking through the fences doing a site visit.

Being A Learner: Matariki - Maori New Year

Ngā mihi o te tau hou!
Happy New Year, greetings for the new year.

We have been talking about Matariki at school.
Last week read some books about Matariki and created some Matariki inspired artworks which we will share our Maori Hui this week.
As part of Matariki and our Healthy Food unit we also planted some carrots and spinach.  We are enjoying watching them grow!

We read this School reading book about Matariki

Here is a song about Matariki

Here is a video telling us a little more about Matariki.

Being A Learner: Bb is for Bubbles

This week our letter of the week is Bb!
This morning we watched the video about blowing bubbles.  The man in the You Tube clip is a bubble blowing artist.  We watched it twice and during the video the teachers could hear lots of wonderings, discussion about how he did things, forming of questions and interesting words being used.  We thought the Bubble Blowing Artist was very clever!  By watching his You Tube video we saw things that we did not see the first time.

Afterwards we collected some words on our graphic organiser.  We collected words like blowing, bouncing, different, shapes, liquid, mixture, dry ice, wands and floating.
We also read  a poem at Reading time about bubbles.

Here is the video we watched:

Here is the poem we read.  Lollipops came to visit us today and they helped us read the poem too!

Being a Learner: Healthy Eating

We are learning about the Food Pyramid and what foods are good for us to eat. We put different foods into their food groups and talked about what gives us energy to learn and play.

Being a Learner: Mobile Wellbeing Hub

We had the pleasure of the Mobile Wellbeing hub coming to our school this week. Policemen and the Fire Brigade came out to teach us how to be safe in the event of a fire. We practiced getting low and getting out. If there is a fire at our house, a safe place to meet is at the letterbox. If there is one at school, we meet out on the field in our classes. Here are some pictures from our day.

Being a Learner: Painting

In Art, we have been experimenting with colours and using the paint brushes. We created monsters by painting lines with black paint, then painting in between the lines with colours. When it was all dry we cut out eyes, horns and mouths to create some pretty cool monsters that are now hanging on our walls.

Being a Learner: Discovery Time

We had a great time in Discovery last week. We explored playing with bats and balls, hula hoops, bubbles and chalk. We pretended to be a caterpillar with the hula hoops.
